We’ve reached the quarters of the 2024 French Open and we have what should be four incredible Women’s quarterfinal matches heading our way.
Join me as I break these matches down with a prediction for each 2024 French Open women’s quarterfinal matches.
Iga Swiatek vs Marketa Vondrousova
Poland’s Iga Swiatek looks for the French Open hat trick but standing in her way is reigning Wimbledon champ Marketa Vondrousova.
Swiatek is 18-1 on the dirt and hasn’t lost a match at Roland Garros in a long time. The World No. 1 has dropped only one set during this fortnight and has dominated the head-to-head with Vondrousova on hard courts (2-0) and clay (1-0).
Vondrousova has dropped one set during this event and is 10-4 on clay and has a 104-36 career mark on the dirt. She has a sneaky good serve, but her groundies can let her down in a big way.
Prediction: Swiatek 2-0
Coco Gauff vs Ons Jabeur
Coco Gauff and Ons Jabeur meet for the seventh time and Gauff holds a 4-2 edge over Tuesday’s opponent.
Gauff is rolling; she reached the semis in Rome and has run through this fortnight without dropping one set. She’s hitting well from both wings, has won 59% of her break point chances but has also served 19 double faults.
Jabeur has a relatively easy run herself. She did drop a set along the way and she’s been broken 10 times which will make things difficult against one of the best returners in the game.
Prediction: Gauff 2-0
Jasmine Paolini vs Elena Rybakina
Italian Jasmine Paolini is having a fine season and is the only WTA player to defeat No. 4 seed Elena Rybakina on the dirt this season.
Paolini by the numbers isn’t all that impressive; her serve has been broken 11 times already, but she is a fighter and is 18-37 in break-point opportunities while winning nearly 50% of her second-service points.
Rybakina has rolled through the first four rounds without dropping one set while hitting 22 winners per match. Her serve has been impactful, and she’s won 70% of her break-point opportunities. The World No. 4 won both times either by retirement or walkover and neither is likely to happen on Tuesday.
Prediction: Rybakina 2-0
Mirra Andreeva vs Aryna Sabalenka
17-year-old Mirra Andreeva has stormed into her first career Grand Slam quarterfinal, but she has a daunting task taking on No. 2 seed Aryna Sabalenka.
Andreeva has dropped one set during this event, but her serve has been broken 11 times. She’s converted 62% of her break chances but has a daunting task against Sabalenka.
The No. 2 seed Sabalenka has rolled through the field and hasn’t faced a stiff challenge yet. She’s been broken four times but has won 52% of her break points and has too much game for the young Andreeva.
Prediction: Sabalenka 2-0
